Severstal Cherepovets, the main steel producing facility of Severstal Russian Steel, has placed an order with Moscow-based Trest Koksohimmontazh for the reconstruction of its coke battery No. 7.

The project, worth Ruble 2 billion (approx. $80 million), includes the complete disassembly of the currently operating coke battery No. 7 and the construction of a new one with a production capacity of 700,000 mt per year. Along with the battery, a new dry coke quenching unit will also be constructed.

The reconstruction is planned to start on July 1, 2009, with the commissioning of the new coke battery scheduled for June 2011.

The reconstruction of the coke battery No. 7 will be carried out in the framework of Severstal Cherepovets' investment program aimed at guaranteeing the required output level of 9.4 million mt per year of pig iron and the balance in coke production.
