Severstal Cherepovets, the main steel producing facility of Severstal Russian Steel, has announced that it has resumed the construction of its second polymer coating line, the commissioning of which is scheduled for June 2011.
The construction of the second polymer coating line, with a total projected cost of Ruble 3 billion (about $98 million), was started at the end of 2007 but was frozen in autumn 2008 due to the global financial crisis. "The decision to resume the project is based on positive forecasts for the polymer coated steel market," Severstal Russian Steel's general director Anatoly Kruchinin said.
The line will have a production capacity of up to 200,000 metric tons per year, and will allow Severstal to increase its annual production capacity of polymer coated products to 400,000 metric tons. The flats for the production of polymer coated products at the line will be supplied from Severstal Cherepovets' continuous hot dip galvanizing (HDG) line, the reconstruction of which has also been resumed in December this year.
The equipment for the second polymer coating line is being supplied by the German plantmaker SMS Siemag, previously SMS Demag.
