Brazilian pellet producer Samarco, a 50/50 JV between Vale and BHP Billiton, has reportedly not paid $103 million (BRL 344 million) in fines related to the November 2015 dam burst, according to several media reports.

Brazilian environmental authority Ibama reportedly fined Samarco 23 times, according to newspaper Noticias do Dia.

In response to the claims of the media reports, Samarco said “there are legal aspects that need to be re-evaluated.”
