Salzgitter Group takes major order for Baltic Pipe Project

Germany-based steel producer Salzgitter Mannesmann International GmbH (SMID) announced that its subsidiaries and associate companies will produce and supply around 30,000 mt of steel pipe and 90 steel pipe bends for the Baltic Pipe Project. Within the scope of the European gas infrastructure project, Norwegian natural gas will be piped to Poland via Denmark.

According to the press release, approximately 24.000 mt of pipes will be manufactured by Mannesmann Grossrohr and 6.000 mt of pipes will be produced by Europipe, while the bends being produced by Salzgitter Mannesmann Grobblech. The input material including slabs for the production of sheet and hot rolled coils will be supplied by other Salzgitter Group subsidiaries and associate companies.

While it will be responsible for the entire project coordination from preparation of offer through to execution of the order, Salzgitter Mannesmann International GmbH will also safeguard the entire supply chain and collaborate with prominent financial service providers.

The stated shipment period of pipes and bends is between January and March 2020.
