Sales of S. Korean high carbon wire rod end products up 10 percent in Sept

Sales of products processed in South Korea from high carbon steel wire rods increased in September compared with a year ago.

Combined sales by five major local producers of the final products in question in September were tallied at 38,131 metric tons, up 9.9 percent from the same month last year, boosted by the brisk sales of wire rope and hard drawn steel wire. The producers' sales in the home market surged by 18.9 percent from a year ago to 20,999 metric tons in September, while export sales increased by 3.9 percent year on year to 17,132 metric tons.

Domestic sales of South Korean wire rope for use in elevators, machinery, airplanes and offshore structures posted a strong rise of 20.9 percent from a year ago in September, while exports slid by 3.3 percent year on year.

In September, sales of hard drawn steel wire processed in South Korea rose by 24.9 percent to 6,097 metric tons in the domestic market and increased by 3.3 percent to 3,823 metric tons in the export markets, both year on year.
