SAIL’s pig iron output up two percent in April-December 2012

Indian state-owned steel producer Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has announced that its pig iron output increased by two percent year on year to 10.7 million mt in the April-December period of 2012. In the period in question, SAIL’s crude steel production rose by one percent to 10.09 million mt, while its finished steel output increased by two percent to 9.25 million mt, both year on year.
 
During the April-December period last year,  the productivity of SAIL’s blast furnaces improved by three percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
 
SAIL also stated that production of IS 2062 E450 and E350 grades of hot rolled coil (HRC) for India Railways has started at its Bokaro and Salem plants.
