SAIL’s BSP fires up new blast furnace to ramp up pig iron capacity

The pig iron capacity of Indian state-owned steelmaker Steel Authority of India Limited’s Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) will increase to 7.5 million mt per year from 5 million mt per year with the firing up of a new blast furnace last Saturday, a company official said on Monday, February 5.

The firing up of the blast furnace will lead to the production of 8,030 mt of pig iron per day or 2.8 million mt per year, the official said. It also marks a step towards the completion of the modernization and expansion of BSP, the official added.
