Indian state-run steelmaker Steel Authority of India Limited’s (SAIL) Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) last week commenced construction of an iron ore beneficiation plant at its captive Rajahara iron ore mine complex in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh, company sources said on Monday, February 24.

The sources said that the ore beneficiation plant will ensure higher grade raw material supplies to BSP steel mill and meet increased demand for raw material following its planned expansion.

The BSP steel mill has been undergoing an expansion to increase hot metal production to 7.6 million mt per year up from 5.137 million mt per year at present and its iron ore requirement will be around 12 million mt. To meet the higher raw material requirement, BSP is also developing the 14 million mt capacity Rowghat captive iron ore mine to support the expanded capacity of the steel mill, the sources added.
