S. Korean mills’ feedstock imports for CR production rise in August over July

In August, South Korea's hot rolled (HR) feedstock imports by major domestic cold rolled (CR) steel producers including Hyundai Hysco, Union Steel MFG. Co. and Dongbu Steel increased by 15.8 percent month on month and decreased by 36.6 percent year on year, totaling 220,000 mt. Of this figure, HR feedstock imports from Japan reached 140,000 mt, increasing by 6.4 percent month on month, while imports from China reached 80,000 mt, increasing by 154.8 percent month on month.
 
In August, Hyundai Hysco's HR feedstock imports for cold rolled production totaled 70,000 mt, decreasing by 15.7 percent month on month, with most of the imports from Japan. Dongbu Steel's imports amounted to 70,000 mt, increasing by 1.8 percent month on month, with most of them from Japan. Finally, Union Steel MFG. Co.'s HR feedstock imports came to 70,000 mt, increasing by 124.6 percent month on month due to the sharp increase in imports from China
