S. African iron and steel output falls strongly in October

According to the preliminary data released by Statistics South Africa, in October this year the country's manufacturing output rose by 2.5 percent compared to the same month of 2011, while the seasonally adjusted manufacturing production is estimated to have increased by 1.2 percent compared to September.

In South Africa, the seasonally adjusted production of basic iron and steel products in October decreased by 17.4 percent compared to September, while the actual production index of basic iron and steel products saw a decrease of 12.9 percent year on year.

However, for basic iron and steel products, the estimated seasonally adjusted sales of manufactured products (at current prices) in October this year decreased by 6.5 percent year on year, amounting to ZAR 7.55 billion ($870 million).
