According to Viktor Makushin, president of Russia's largest scrap processor Industrial Group MAIR, the major Russian steelmakers, which already have their own scrap collecting yards and processing capacities, are set to continue to increase their scrap collection capacities in the years to come.

According to Mr. Makushin's forecast, over the next four years half of Russian scrap will be collected by companies under the management of the large steel producers. This tendency is in line with the policies of most Russian metallurgical companies aimed at self-sufficiency in raw materials, and thereby independence from raw material suppliers, not mentioning the fact that most current scrap collection networks are largely ineffective.
