Russian iron-steel exports to non-CIS countries rise

Russian iron and steel exports to non-CIS countries rose in 2004 due to higher prices and stronger demand from Asian countries. According to the data released by Russia's Federal Customs Service, iron and steel exports reached $15.06 billion last year, up 92.7%. Ferroalloy exports rose 22.4% in terms of tonnage and 120% in terms of value, while pig iron exports showed gains of 18.2% and 130%. Semi-finished iron products posted increases of 19.5% and 120% in terms of tonnage and value, whereas iron and non-alloyed steel roll exports rose 60.4% in terms of value. Russian ferrous metal exports to the CIS and non-CIS countries totaled 48.9 million tons in 2004.
