In the first four months of the current year, Russia registered a 6.6 percent increase in its crude steel production year on year to 22.9 million mt.
During the period in question, Russia produced 16 million mt of pig iron - down 1.1 percent, 19.5 million mt of finished steel - up 5.3 percent, 3.4 million mt of steel pipes - up 19.9 percent, all compared to January-April 2010.
In January-April, Russia saw a 7.8 percent decrease in its coal production to 107 million mt and a 0.7 percent reduction in its metallurgical coke production to 9 million mt. In January-April 2011, Russia produced 33.1 million mt of iron ore concentrate, up 8.3 compared to the same period last year.
