Meanwhile, the liquid steel capacity of the plant's existing production facilities is also envisaged to be increased by 500.000 tons tons by March 2010 through a medium-term plan scheme involving Addition, Modification and Replacement (AMR) schemes and non-AMR schemes at a cost of about $1.22 million. After the completion of the Phase-1 expansion and the medium-term plan scheme, the total capacity of the plant will be increased to 6.8 million tones of liquid steel per annum by 2010.
The plant's iron ore requirement up to 6.3 million tons has almost completely been tied up with M/s National Mineral Development Corporation.
In addition, RINL has also applied for a mining lease for iron reserves in the states of Orissa, Chhatisgarh and Andhra Pradesh; however, no iron ore reserve has been allocated to the company yet.
