Republic Engineered Products makes strategic SBQ acquisition

Mexico-based Grupo Simec S.A.B. de C.V. announced Tuesday that its subsidiary, Canton, Ohio-based Republic Engineered Products Inc. (REP) has acquired the assets of Bluff City. Bluff City facilities, located in Cleveland, Ohio and Memphis, Tennessee, include a heat treatment facility and cold drawn steel bars.

With this acquisition, REP will grow and enhance its capacity production of special bar quality steel (SBQ).

Simec also announced Tuesday that its plants located in San Luis Potosi (SLP) and Apizaco, Tlaxcala, Mexico have completed their investment programs in their meltshops. The investment in the SLP plant brings installed capacity at the mill to one million net tons of billet, while the investment in the Apizaco, Tlaxcala plant will bring installed capacity to five thousand net tons of billet, which gives self-sufficiency of billet for its mills.

With all of these investments, Simec reaches over 5 million net tons installed capacity annual of steel production in all of its plants.
