UK-based plantmaker Primetals Technologies has announced that it will supply two new ladle furnaces for German steel producer Hüttenwerke Krupp Mannesmann GmbH’s (HKM) LD basic oxygen furnace (BOF) plant at its Duisburg-Huckingen location. Commissioning of the new furnaces is scheduled for the fall of 2019.

According to Primetals Technologies, the ladle furnaces are designed for a fully automated annual treatment capacity of 5.6 million metric tons of liquid steel, and so are ready for Industry 4.0. The new furnaces will help to substantially reduce operating costs in the steel works. In addition, the phosphorous content of the melts can be reduced, and higher proportions of alloying elements can be processed.
