UK-based plantmaker Primetals Technologies has announced that it will supply a new continuous slab caster to Tata Steel IJmuiden BV, India-based steel giant Tata Steel’s subsidiary in the Netherlands. The plant will be designed to produce around 2.7 million metric tons of slabs per year and will cast high-quality grades for end applications in the automotive industry. The plant is scheduled for commissioning in March 2019.

The new equipment will be able to cast slabs with thicknesses between 180 mm and 305 mm, in widths ranging from 900 mm to 2,150 mm. The caster will process a wide range of carbon steels, peritectic grades, structural steel and HSLA (high strength low alloy).
