Preliminary US steel imports in April reflect month-on-month increase

According to May 25, 2010 Steel Import Monitoring and Analysis (SIMA) data, preliminary steel import data to the US reflect total import steel tonnages of 2,072,000 nt for the month of April, including 1,672,000 nt of finished steel.  These figures each reflect a one percent increase in both market sectors, versus final data numbers reported for March.

Key finished steel products indicating month-on-month import increases from March to April include all metallic sheet and strip, reinforcing bars, heavy structural shapes, oil country goods, line pipe, and plates in coils.

In April, the largest offshore importers were South Korea (196,000 nt), Japan (91,000 nt), Turkey (86,000 nt), Germany (86,000 nt) and Taiwan (68,000 nt).
