PPI for Turkey’s metal industry up 2.98 percent in December over November

According to the statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in December 2009 the producer price index (PPI) for Turkish industry in general increased by 0.66 percent over November and was up 5.93 percent year on year, while an overall rise of 1.23 percent was registered for the latest twelve months.

In December, the domestic basic metal industry, for which the PPI rose by 2.98 percent month on month and was up 4.11 percent compared to December 2008, was one of the industries which registered the highest increases in the PPI. Meanwhile, in 2009 the overall decrease in the PPI in the domestic basic metal industry was 20.3 percent.

On the other hand, during the given month, the PPI for domestic manufacture of metal products, except machinery, rose by 0.17 percent over the previous month and was down 1.6 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in the sector in question, an overall increase of 3.82 percent in the PPI was registered in the latest twelve months.
