Port Hedland Green Steel plans to develop iron ore processing plant

The Environmental Protection Authority of Western Australia has announced that Australia-based Port Hedland Green Steel Pty. Ltd. has proposed to develop a large-scale downstream iron ore processing plant in the Pilbara region.

The proposed project known as the Port Hedland Green Steel Project - Stage 1 will consist of a pellet plant and a hot briquette iron (HBI) plant, annually consuming approximately 3-3.5 million mt of iron ore. Most of the pellets will be fed into the HBI plant to produce approximately an annual two million mt of HBI. The remainder of the pellets (approximately 70,000 mt) will be exported from the Port of Port Hedland.

The project will also include hydrogen production and storage facilities for supply to the iron ore processing facility, and a nitrogen plant.
