Polish PHS modernization at full pace
Under the framework of the privatisation plan and prior to
Poland's accession to the EU, Polsky Huty Stali (PHS) is in preparations of modernisation.
Following the news of renovations for the
plate mill Huta Sendzimira, reports from the industry now reveal that PHS has ordered now a €27.5 million worth strip coating line for its downstream Huta Florian mill.
The
production is scheduled to initiate in the first quarter of 2004. After the
construction of the new strip coating line, which will be done by Voest-Alpine Industrieanlagenbau (VAI) of
Austria, the plant will have an annual capacity of 100'000 tons
production of aluminium and steel strips (
coated with paint or foil).
The modernisation process is a part of the restructuring program under the Polish Government's agreement with the EU Commission. According to the agreement PHS, created in May by merging four Polish steel mills; Huta Sendzimira, Huta Katowice, Huta Cedler and Huta Florian, will be privatised by 2006 and cut the overall
production by 900'000 tons per year.
