Germany-based power and gas company E.ON has submitted environmental scoping reports outlining the company's plans for a carbon dioxide (CO2) pipeline for its proposed Kingsnorth cleaner coal-fired power station.

A company press release said that the pipeline, which will be crossing the Hoo Peninsula in southeast England, will be able to carry CO2 emissions of two 1,600 megawatt Kingsnorth type power plants and three smaller 500 megawatt combined heat and power plants, transporting 24 million mt of CO2 each year. The pipeline will take the emissions to the depleted North Sea gas fields which will be used for storage.

The final proposals are expected to be submitted to Medway Council as part of a full pipeline planning application towards the end of this year. A series of public exhibitions is planned across the peninsula, from the week starting April 26, 2010.
