Philippines’ vehicle sales up

Joint data from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) show that the country's vehicle sales rose 9.7% in the first four months of 2005. New vehicle sales rose from 27'583 units in the first four months of 2004 to 30'246 units in the four months of 2005. This figure accounts for 32% of the domestic industry's target of 95'000 units for 2005. The introduction of new vehicle models and promotional activities contributed to vehicle sales' increase. It is also reported that passenger car sales rose 7.5% year on year from 10'652 units to 11'452 units. In the January-April 2005 period, sales of commercial vehicles saw a year-on-year increase of 13.7% to 18'794 units. On the other hand, sales of light trucks slid 4% to 554 units, while that of trucks and buses dropped 18.8% to 135 units. Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. remained the market leader with a 34.5% share. The company sold 10'430 units in the first four months, up 5% compared to the 9'932 units sold in the same period last year.
