The Peruvian ministry of mines and energy, MEM, has traveled to China to promote the country and seek further investments during the China Mining 2017 conference.
MEM’s vice-minister Ricardo Labo sought to promote the country’s mining investment platform during the conference held in from on September 23-25.
China is seen by the Peruvian government as a “strategic partner” to promote and improve the country’s mining segment.
“(China) represents 24 percent of Peru’s total mining exports and 34 percent of metallic mining exports. Even so, it is a key investor for the sector due to its copper companies that account for 21.2 percent of Peru’s production,” Labo said.
China also accounts for all Peru’s iron ore production. Shougang is the owner of Peru’s only iron ore producer, Shougang Hierro Peru, which is currently considering a mine expansion in Marcona.
