The Russian steel and pipe producer United Metallurgical Company (OMK) has announced that in 2010 its Novgorod-based steel pipe producer Vyksa Steel Works (Vyksa) saw a 33.4 percent year-on-year growth in its steel pipe production to two million mt, of which 1.3 million mt were large diameter (LD) steel pipes - up 35.5 percent compared to the same period last year.
According to OMK's statement, such high annual steel pipe output results were achieved mainly due to Vyksa's participation in a number of major oil and gas projects. In 2010, Vyksa was the only Russian LD steel pipe supplier for the second line of the Nord Stream international gas pipeline, and continued its deliveries to such major projects as the Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok, the Eastern Siberia-Pacific Ocean-2, and the Baltic Pipeline System-2.
In 2011, OMK's main task will be the commissioning of its new steel plate mill-500 with a designed annual capacity of 1.5 million mt, which will fully meet Vyksa's needs in wide steel sheets with enhanced application properties for the production of new generation LD steel pipes.
