The Russian steel and pipe producer United Metallurgical Company (OMK) has announced that since the beginning of this year up to October 20 its Novgorod-based pipe producer Vyksa Steel Works (Vyksa) has produced one million mt of large diameter (LD) steel pipes, which is an all-time historical production record for the company.

Vyksa had never previously achieved this level of output even during an entire year. For example, in 2009 Vyksa's output of LD pipes amounted to 967,235 mt.

According to Vyksa executive director Vladimir Kochetkov, such high results were achieved mainly due to OMK's massive investments in the modernization of Vyksa's LD pipe production.

Currently, Vyksa is secured with orders, including for such major projects as the construction of the second line of the Nord Stream international gas pipeline, the Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok and Baydaratskaya Bay gas pipelines, and the Eastern Siberia-Pacific Ocean-2 oil pipeline.

With an annual capacity of two million mt of large diameter steel pipes, Vyksa maintains its number one position among European large diameter pipe producers.  In 2009, Vyksa's market share among Russian large diameter pipe producers amounted to over 50 percent.
