Oman-based Jindal Shadeed commissions new billet caster

Oman-based steelmaker Jindal Shadeed Iron & Steel LLC (JSIS) has successfully put a new high-speed billet caster with six strands into operation, according to German plantmaker SMS Group.

The continuous casting machine currently produces billets of 165 mm square section at a casting speed of 3.6 meters per minute. However, provision is made for eight strands and square billets with a section range from 130 mm up to 200 mm. The caster will reach an annual capacity of 2,000,000 mt.

SMS Group said that further technological solutions planned to be installed will enable the production of SBQ steel grades as well.
