OECD unemployment rate stable at 6.3 percent since May this year

In September this year, the unemployment rate of the 34 Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) member countries remained stable at 6.3 percent, according to new figures published by the OECD. The unemployment rate has been stable since May of the current year. The number of unemployed in the OECD region in September was 39.5 million people, 9.5 million less than in January 2013, but still 6.8 million more than in April 2008, before the global crisis started affecting the labor market.
 
In September, on month-on-month basis, the unemployment rate for the euro area was stable at 10 percent. The unemployment rate for the euro area has been stable since July this year. In the given month, the unemployment rate increased by 0.1 percentage point to 5.0 percent in the US, by 0.1 percentage point to 3.9 percent in Mexico and by 0.2 percentage points to 4.0 percent in South Korea, all compared to August. In September, the unemployment rate in Canada remained stable at 7.0 percent and the unemployment rate fell by 0.1 percentage point in Japan to 3.0 percent, both compared to the previous month.
