OECD unemployment rate stable at 5.7 percent in September

In September this year, the unemployment rate of the 34 Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) member countries remained stable at 5.7 percent compared to August, according to new figures published by the OECD. The number of unemployed in the OECD region in September was 35.7 million people, 3.0 million more than before the crisis in April 2008.

In September, the unemployment rate for the euro area was at 8.9 percent, decreasing 0.1 percentage point month on month. In the given month, the unemployment rate decreased by 0.2 percentage point in the US to 4.2 percent and by 0.1 percentage point in Korea to 3.7 percent, and remained stable in Canada at 6.2 percent, in Japan at 2.8 percent and in Mexico at 3.3 percent, all compared to August.
