The Russian steelmaker Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK) has announced the completion of modernization works at its hot strip mill 2000.

As a result of the modernization, NLMK will be able to increase the mill's capacity by 195,000 mt per year, to improve the quality of hot rolled products, and to ensure the safe and smooth operation of equipment.

The revamp included the upgrading of the mill's cooling system for the metal and work rolls of the finishing train, as well as the of control systems, including the main drives, screws, setup mechanisms and strip tensioning devices.

The project, amounting to a value of Ruble 1.1 billion (approx. $40 million), was implemented by German suppliers SMS Demag and Transresch, as part of the second phase of NLMK's technical upgrade program for 2007-2011.
