The Russian steelmaker Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK) has announced the commissioning of a new 25 MW turbogenerator at its main production site in Lipetsk.

The new highly automated turbogenerator will allow NLMK to increase power generation, to improve the efficiency of the existing high pressure steam generation facilities, to ensure reliable power supply to the shops, and to optimize the utilization of the steam consuming facilities.

The project, worth more than Ruble 365 million (approx $13.8 million), is in line with the second phase of NLMK's Technical Upgrade Program for 2007-2011, directed towards the increase of its crude steel output from nine million up to 12.4 million mt per year, including the rise of its finished flats output from five to 9.5 million mt per year, and the achievement of 100 percent self-sufficiency in basic raw materials.
