In 2010, steel product consumption in Moldova is estimated to increase by 5-10 percent year on year to 210,000-220,000 mt, with domestic demand remaining low, Ukraine's information-analytical portal ugmk.info has reported, adding that the main consumption continues to be concentrated in the construction sector amid weakness in industrial sectors.

Currently, the prospects for increase in Moldova's domestic demand are associated primarily with the implementation of civil and industrial construction programs, which are carried out with foreign financial support.

According to World Steel Association, in 2009 apparent consumption of steel products in Moldova fell by 28 percent compared to 2008, amounting to only 200,000 mt.
