Modernisation of Russian mill MMK

Russian steel producer Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has decided to construct a €33.9 million worth polymer coating mill which will be done by Voest-Alpine Industrieanlagenbau (VAI) of Austria. The construction is scheduled to initiate on July 2004. After the construction of the new polymer coating mill will have an annual capacity of 200'000 tons. Also, the polymer coating line will come as an addition to the MMK's hot dipped galvanized coils (HDG) which was established in 2002. Furthermore, colour coated products represent a rapidly developing market in Russia. The Russian market has consumed a total of 250'000 tons with an increase of 40% in the last twelve months compared to the previous period. In addition to modernisation process, MMK plans to replace old open hearth furnaces with electric arc furnaces and regular rolling lines with multi profile lines.
