The European Commission (EC) has declined Moldova's petition to prolong the ’double-control' system regarding Moldovan Metallurgical Plant (MMZ) - the Transnistrian region's (Prednestrovie) largest enterprise - for the next year. As a result, MMZ will be able to resume its shipments to the European Union (EU). The ’double –control' system was introduced at the beginning of the current year on Moldova's initiative and required MMZ's shipments to be equipped with both Moldova's and the EU's import licenses. As a consequence, MMZ was forced to stop its exports to the EU.
