MMK’s steel production rises by 13 percent in Q1

In the first quarter of the current year, the steel production of Russian steelmaker Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) totaled 3.092 million mt, up 13 percent year on year. In addition, in the first three months of the year, MMK registered an 11 percent increase year on year in its commercial steel output to 2.735 million mt.

During the period in question, MMK's pig iron production rose by 11 percent to 2.471 million mt, its long product output increased by 59 percent to 335,000 mt, zinc-coated rolled steel output went up by 17 percent to 141,000 mt, and steel tube production increased by 27 percent to 18,000 mt - all on year-on-year basis.

In 2011, MMK plans to increase its commercial steel output by 20 percent compared to 2010 due to continued growth in demand for the company's products from the leading sectors of the Russian economy.
