MMK restarts operations at BF No. 2

The Russian steel producer Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced the recommissioning of its blast furnace (BF) No. 2, as the demand in its steel products started to go up.

Accordingly, MMK's BF No.2, which has a capacity of 3,400 mt of pig iron per day, was halted for a 27-day overhaul in the end of December 2008. After the completion of the repair works, MMK decided to delay the recommissioning of its BF due to the low demand of steel products.

MMK is currently operating five of its eight BFs, and plans soon to restart the production operation at one more BF.
