Russian steel mill Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced that it has completed first category capital repairs at its blast furnace (BF) No. 1.

Accordingly, BF No. 1 was shut down for overhaul at the end of last year. Following repairs which included the renewal of its bottom and hearth lining and the replacement of its other main components, BF No. 1 has now been placed in reserve.

MMK's BF No. 1, commissioned in 1932, was completely rebuilt in the late 90s. As a result of this reconstruction, the blast furnace's volume increased to 1,370 m3, while its annual production capacity reached 1.2 million mt, i.e., 3,000 mt of pig iron per day.
