The Russian steel producer Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced that it has completed the first phase of technological equipment installation at its new cold rolling complex (mill 2000), with the continuous pickling line being linked to the ‘tandem' mill and all the necessary gear being put in place.

Accordingly, the rolling test has been completed at the input section of the continuous pickling unit of the mill 2000. The low- and high-pressure and emulsion systems have been tested. Pre-commissioning activities at the continuous pickling unit's middle- and tail ends are continuing.

As SteelOrbis previously reported, the launch of the mill's first stage, which includes the commissioning of the cold rolling mill and pickling line, has been scheduled for July this year, while full-cycle production at the mill 2000 will be commissioned by mid-2012. Its capacity will reach two million mt per year, including 700,000 mt of galvanized steel.

The mill will supply its products to carmakers, home appliance manufacturers and the construction sector.
