Apparent consumption of galvanized sheet in Mexico increased 4.8 percent, year-over-year, in February, totaling 351,000 metric tons (mt). However, production decreased 2.9 percent to 265,000 mt, according to data from the Mexican Chamber of the Iron and Steel Industry (Canacero) reviewed by SteelOrbis.
In February, HDG sheet was the second most consumed product in Mexico, only surpassed by rebar.
HDG exports decreased by 32.7 percent, year-over-year, totaling 37,000 mt. Imports of HDG increased by 5.1 percent to 123,000 mt. As such, the flow of HDG trade decreased 7.0 percent year-on-year to 160,000 mt in February.
According to another report by Canacero, the steel mills that produce galvanized sheets in Mexico are Ternium and TA 2000 (Tyasa). In addition, the rolling mills Posco México and Villacero.
