Mexican galvanized sheet production and consumption increase marginally in January

The apparent consumption of galvanized sheet in Mexico increased marginally 0.1 percent, year-over-year, in January to total 325,000 metric tons (mt). Production increased and international trade decreased, according to data from the Mexican Chamber of the Iron and Steel Industry (Canacero). reviewed by SteelOrbis.

Production increased 4.0 percent, year-over-year, or 10,000 mt to total 266,000 mt. That volume represents 81.8 percent of consumption. In addition, by production it is the third most important finished steel product in Mexico, by level of consumption it is the fourth.

Galvanized sheet exports decreased 28.0 percent, year-over-year, totaling 33,000 mt in the analysis period, the third largest export product of finished steel products.

Imports decreased 19.5 percent, year-over-year, going from 114,000 mt in January 2021 to 92,000 mt. This volume contributed 28.3 percent of the consumption of the Mexican market in the first month of 2023.

According to another report by Canacero, the steel companies that produce galvanized sheets in Mexico are Ternium and Talleres y Aceros (TYASA). As rolling mills, they also produce Posco México and Villacero.
