Mexican CRC consumption and production decline in February

The apparent consumption of cold rolled coils (CRC) in Mexico decreased 19.5 percent, year-over-year, in February to 293,000 metric tons (mt), according to data from the Mexican Chamber of the Iron and Steel Industry (Canacero) reviewed by SteelOrbis.

CRC production in Mexico decreased 18.0 percent year-on-year to 237,000 mt. This decrease is equivalent to the fact that the manufacturers of this product had stopped their production for six days.

In the international market, the commercial flow of the CRC decreased 33.3 percent or 47,000 mt, totaling 94,000 mt. Exports decreased 42.4 percent to 19,000 mt, while imports decreased 30.6 percent to 75,000 mt. In international trade, for each ton of CRC exported from Mexico, in February, 3.9 tons were imported.

In February, the dependence of CRC consumption in the Mexican market on exports decreased slightly from 29.7 percent in February of last year to 25.6 percent in February of this year.
