Ukrainian mining and steel producing group Metinvest has announced that, together with Italia-based shipping company Fratelli Cosulich, it has developed a project to increase the permissible size of vessels entering the port of Porto Nogaro in Italy, which will allow Metinvest to cut costs for the delivery of steel products to Italy by €4.4 million per year, and thereby strengthen its position in the region.

Metivest stated that, to implement the project, research was conducted on the navigation channel using a special laboratory and laser measurements and as a result, permission was received to enter the port of vessels with deadweights of up to 15,000-16,000 tons instead of the previous limit of 7,000 tons. The project is being implemented within the framework of the Metinvest’s strategy to ensure efficient logistics.

In Italy, Metinvest Group owns Metinvest Trametal (the production site is located in San Giorgio di Nogaro) and Ferriera Valsider (Verona).
