Metalloinvest, a leading global iron ore and hot briquetted iron (HBI) producer based in Russia, has announced that its subsidiary Ural Steel, which is based in Novotroitsk, Russia, has started production at its new heat treatment complex, constructed with an investment over RUB 1.2 billion.

The project includes a new roller hearth heat treatment furnace No. 1 and a rolling quenching machine No. 1 at Ural Steel’s sheet rolling facility.

Metalloinvest stated that the new equipment enables Ural Steel to increase the heat treatment capacity from 28.6 mt to 30.7 mt per hour. Over the next 10 years, between 2019 and 2028, Ural Steel will be able to increase the production of heat-treated heavy plate by three times, and the production of steel for bridge construction by 39 percent.

Andrey Varichev, Metalloinvest’s CEO, stated that the project has been completed as part of Metalloinvest’s comprehensive investment program to reorganize production processes at Ural Steel, which will boost the operational and management efficiency of the enterprise. This new high-tech facility will strengthen the company’s position in the market for heat-treated rolled products, Mr. Varichev added.
