Russian mining and steel group Mechel has announced that its subsidiary Beloretsk Metallurgical Plant has ordered a steel rope mill from German equipment manufacturer Sket Verseilmaschinenbau GmbH. The new equipment, which will be the first to produce steel rope products in Russia and will enable import substitution, is scheduled to start production in January 2019. The project has a value of RUB 510.6 million (€8.25 million).

The new mill will produce stranded ropes in diameters ranging from 22 mm to 90 mm to be used in lifting equipment, bridges and the coal mining industry, and will have an annual production capacity of 15,000 mt.
