Mechel closes BF at Chelyabinsk Metallurgical

Russian steel producer Mechel OAO announced that an old blast furnace at its Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant OAO was closed. The shutdown is a part of Mechel's investment program that aims to reduce production at outdated facilities and to improve the technology used at the facilities. The shutdown will not affect production of rolled products; however, pig iron production will decline by 9%.
