Manganese ore exports via Port Hedland up 50% in Apr over Mar

In April this year, manganese ore shipments from Australia's Port Hedland totaled 156,565 metric tons, increasing 50.2 percent compared to the previous month and down 28.4 percent compared to the same month last year, according to Port Hedland Port Authority.

According to the released information, manganese ore shipments made from Port Hedland to China amounted to 79,500 metric tons in April, decreasing by 53.8 percent year on year and down 23.75 percent as compared to March.

India was the second biggest export destination for manganese ore shipments from Port Hedland in April, with shipments totaling 77,065 metric tons. According to the port authority, no manganese ore shipments from Port Hedland to India had been recorded in March this year, nor in April last year.

Port Hedland handles production from mines owned by BHP Billiton, Fortescue Metals Group and Atlas Manganese in the manganese ore-rich Pilbara region of Western Australia.
