Malaysian foreign trade statistics

Malaysia's Department of Statistics indicated that the unofficial trade surplus of the country was MYR81.1 billion (around $21.3 billion) for 2004. Total exports of the country increased 20.5% to MYR480.7 billion, while imports rose 25.8% to MYR399.6 billion from the previous year. Electronics remained Malaysia's export leader, accounting for 50.2% of the country's overall exports revenue with MYR241.5 billion. Malaysia's electronic exports rose 14.4% from 2003. Intermediate goods formed 71.9% of total imports with MYR287.2 billion. The figure indicates a 23.2% increase from 2003. The US, Singapore, Japan, and China remained Malaysia's major trading partners in 2004, contributing to 50.9% of Malaysia's total trade. Malaysia's industrial production increased 11.2% in 2004. A 12.6% gain in the manufacturing sector, as well as 8.3% and 5.8% gains in the electronics and mining sectors, contributed to the increase in industrial production.
