Piero Nardi, special commissioner of Italian steelmaker Lucchini S.p.A. (Lucchini), has stated that the deadline for the submission of binding offers for the purchase of the Lucchini wire rod and steel bar heat treatment and finishing plant at Condove near Torino has been extended to 6:00 p.m. (Italian time) on July 30, 2015. The previous deadline for the submission of tenders was June 15.
In late 2012, after being declared insolvent Lucchini was placed under "special administration", a procedure designed to save large companies and avoid big job losses. To date, apart from the Condove plant which has 90 employees, all assets of the group have been sold - the Trieste-based unit to a subsidiary of Italian steelmaker Arvedi Group, the Piombino complex to Algerian group Cevital, while the Lecco-based branch has been sold to a Duferco-Feralpi JV.
