L&T consortium obtains BF order from Bhushan Steel

India's third largest steelmaker, Bhushan Steel Limited, has awarded an order worth Rupees 12.05 billion ($296.6 million) to a consortium led by the country's largest engineering and construction conglomerate, Larsen & Toubro (L&T), for the construction of a blast furnace for the company's plant in Orissa. The annual production capacity of the blast furnace will be 2.5 million mt.

The consortium will supply basic engineering, proprietary and special equipment as well as technical supervisory services, while L&T will supply detail engineering, indigenous mechanical, electrical and instrumentation works.

The construction in question is foreseen to be completed within 28 months, starting from December 2007.

L&T recently bagged another order for a blast furnace from Tata Steel, as previously reported by SteelOrbis.
