Los Angeles-based Douglas Steel Supply announced Friday plans to open a 60,000 square-foot facility in El Paso, Texas in February. Douglas Steel supplies steel sheet and coil to end-use manufacturers.

"We did evaluate other areas for operations and we selected El Paso because it's a major trade corridor with Mexico with a very well developed infrastructure, and, of course, a very good and friendly local government," said Roger Seaman, vice president of operations and co-owner of Douglas Steel, speaking at a press conference at El Paso City Hall.

The company will invest $3 million in equipment and employ 55 people within the next five years. The facility’s main warehouse will open by late February, with its steel processing equipment operating later.
